10 Healthy Mocktail Recipes

10 Healthy Mocktail recipes

It’s been 22 months since I have had alcohol, the longest period of time I’ve gone without it. Seeing as this month is known for "Dry January" I thought it would be the perfect time to share these recipes.

Even if you have not participated in Dry January, maybe this will inspire you to go dry in February.

Did you know that alcohol was classified as a group 1 carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on cancer decades ago? I was shocked when I first learned this.  Why isn’t this information more prevalent? And guess what? No amount of alcohol is actually healthy. You can read more here: https://www.uicc.org/what-we-do/thematic-areas/cancer-and-alcohol#:~:text=The%20International%20Agency%20for%20Research,can%20cause%20cancer%20in%20humans.

I have always loved a spicy margarita or a Paloma but over the last 4 years since I participated in my first dry January I have learned I like my life a lot better with a mocktail instead of a cocktail. Why? Because I never realized how much alcohol affected me mentally, physically or emotionally until I removed it out of my life for 30 days. It actually surprised me because I was only consuming 1-2 drinks per weekend, so I didn’t think removing it would really impact my life as much as it did. After 30 days without it I was sold on why this was so beneficial for me personally 🤩🥰

There are countless studies that have shown removing it can improve your sleep, weight loss, vision, kidney health, your liver (especially the ability to detoxify your body), your heart health, your brain health, anxiety, depression and the list goes on. I can not tell you the number of clients I have worked with that are blown away by how much their sleep has improved, they have such clarity, anxiety has improved, they no longer have a belly and have lost weight. Some of these benefits were experienced in the first 7-10 days and these women did not consider themselves big drinkers. I even had a client say to me that she realized every time she tried not drinking in the past she couldn't make it beyond two weeks and it dawned on her that she was relying on it to help her relieve stress and just feel lighter. So we talked about ways she could reduce stress instead of turning to alcohol. We talked about going for walks, learning how to meditate, journaling, reading, calling a friend or a family member to catch up or take up a new nightly hobby. After trying several different options she found meditating to be so helpful along with making nightly phone calls to check in with friends and family. I wanted to share these with you in case you may have a hard time as well and hadn't realized it had become a habit to combat your own stress. I hope these suggestions help you as well.

Our society has made drinking in unhealthy amounts so normalized but I have been noticing a movement of more and more people reducing it or removing it completely because they’re discovering the same thing I have. Life without alcohol is better.

I am not sure if I will ever have alcohol again but what I do know is I like how I feel without it a lot better than how I feel when I’ve allowed it back in. My mentality is if I want one, I’ll have one. I just keep choosing not to because I don’t want to stop feeling this good 🥰

What about you? Are you participating in dry January? Do you want to remove it completely or reduce your intake? Notice any benefits without it in your life? I would love to hear all about it in the comments.

Whatever you choose is best for your life. My hope is it allows you to feel your absolute best mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally. Let’s cheers to that 🥂
