Healthier Peppermint Bark Recipe
Check out this store bought Peppermint Bark ingredient list below. It contains ingredients such as seed oils, corn syrup and red 40. Did you know that RED 40 can cause side effects such as Neurobehavioral problems, inflammation, gut issues and DNA damage? (you can find more information about this on PUBMED, Cleveland Clinic, NIH.gov, Science Direct) All three of these ingredients can wreak havoc within our bodies. I don’t want that for my family, myself or for you. Once we know better we can choose better. So instead of buying this you can make your own delicious healthier peppermint bark from home.
Let's grab the ingredients:
1 teaspoon of organic peppermint oil
3 cups of Pascha dark chocolate chips no sugar added
3 cups of Pascha white chocolate chips
2 teaspoons of organic coconut oil (optional)
6 Organic Candy Canes (check these for corn syrup, seed oils and dyes) I found ones at Whole Foods
Let's make the peppermint bark:
First I blended the candy canes in the blender because crushing them did not work out so well. Then I melted the chocolate with coconut oil over the stove top. I lined a sheet pan with non toxic parchment paper. Then I pour the melted chocolate on the pan and spread evenly. I stick that in the freezer. Then I melt the white chocolate like I did the dark chocolate. Once that is smooth I pull the chocolate which is almost solid and pour the melted white chips. I smooth that over the chocolate and then cover with the blended candy canes. I place it back in the freezer for 45 minutes and then it's ready to be broken up, then enjoyed!
